MY EXPERIENCE DURING ATTACHMENT

School attachments are essential part to us students in education programs. It helps students reflect what they learnt in paper work to outside space.

Personally I did my industrial attachment in kilifi County at a radio station called Shugwaya Broadcasting Station, located at green House estate. The attachment took a period of 3 months.

My first day in the organisation was pleasing and got to know all staffs, secondly, was orientation introduced to the mentors who would supervise me during the 3 months period.

As time went by I was able to grasp new ideas, and I would make sure each new day I should learn something new. My supervisor was there when need arouse. I was able to social and have free talks with the staff members.

The achievements that i got were :-I was able to cover significant events first hand such as natural disaster, political and social movements.
Secondly I would interview and meet people from all walks of life who may have diverse background and perspective. Lastly I got a deeper understanding of the world around them,as they continuously research and report on various topics and issues.

Last but not least the challenges were there which were:- Balancing accuracy and speed since there is normally intense pressure for we journalists to report news as quick as possible before it expires.

Again on the issue of field work, the sources may not want to speak on the record or provide reliable information.

Lastly maintaining integrity and impartiality may be hard due to political pressure.
Financial challenge was a huge deal since I was using my own money to enhance the work given by the organisation
Equipment too became a burden to us hence resulting to slow working environment and late submissions of work.

In conclusion personally I learnt a lot, even when the challenges were there we managed to conquer. I was able to acquire skill work,do team work and having the ability to build positive relationships. Self and time management was the key point because I didn’t know how to keep time. I could negotiate and be a helping hand when the organisation had tough times.
